Product Description

Shaker cabinet doors are a timeless choice inspired by the legendary woodworkers of the Shaker community. These doors are gentle on the wallet, and their clean lines and solid wood construction can suit traditional to contemporary spaces.

Our Shaker-style cabinet door design features a sturdy ¼” center wood panel set back ¼” within the frame, creating a subtle shadow line. Expertly joined with old-world traditional tenon joinery, the solid hardwood frame provides lasting strength.

We offer Shaker cabinet doors in premium wood species to match your vision, including:

  • Maple
  • White Maple
  • Red Oak
  • Quarter-Sawn Red Oak
  • Rift-Sawn White Oak
  • Cherry
  • Walnut
  • Clear Alder
  • Rustic Alder
  • Hickory

Choose from multiple frame widths ranging from 2 ¼” to 3” wide to coordinate with your existing cabinetry. Optional pre-drilled hinge cup holes are available in three boring formats for easy installation.

For a ready-to-install solution, have your Shaker cabinet doors prefinished in our shop. Our topcoat options include a smooth satin conversion varnish or a durable white primer, ready for you to paint with the color of your choice. We also offer a custom paint option that enables us to match your current paint color in-house.

Note: If you’re ordering a Shaker cabinet door to match a previous order, check if you have a ¼” or ⅜” inset on the front. The new standard inset is ¼”.

Are Shaker-style doors outdated?

The simplicity and elegance of Shaker cabinet doors provides a timeless look built to last. While trends come and go, the clean lines of these doors look right at home in both traditional farmhouse and modern spaces. Plus, their simplicity means they pair beautifully with many other styles.

What is the difference between a Shaker and a slab cabinet door?

While both have a simple, versatile design, Shaker-style cabinet doors feature a prominent frame surrounding an inset flat center panel. Slab cabinet doors are flat across the entire surface without a frame. The difference is largely aesthetic. Shaker doors have a more dimensional, traditional look complementing both rustic and contemporary spaces.

Are Shaker style cabinets doors expensive?

Solid wood Shaker cabinet doors are an investment, but there are other affordable options. For example, thermofoil Shaker doors from The Cabinet Door Store offer the same style in a budget-friendly yet durable laminate. For a middle ground, veneered Shaker doors offer wood construction at lower costs. Solid wood doors made from economical woods like natural hard maple also offer durability without breaking the bank. Compare options from The Cabinet Door Store to find the perfect balance of value and quality for your space.

Tenon Door and Drawer Front Construction

The Cabinet Door Store manufactures its wood tenon style cabinet doors without the use of any metal pins. All solid panels are installed with rubber spacers to allow for expansion or contraction in different environmental situations. All plywood panels are glued in on all four sides as plywood is structurally stable and this prevents any possible vibration problems in the future with the plywood panel.

Tenon Door and Drawer Front Thickness

All tenon doors are 0.8” (20mm) thick.

Grain Direction

Cabinet doors have a vertical grain by default. Drawer Fronts have a horizontal grain by default (as of 1/18/2022; NOTE: product photos show vertical grain; this is available by request). Grain direction is not applicable for doors and drawer fronts with Paint Grade Maple w/ HDF Center Panels.

Center Rails & Stiles on Tenon Doors and Drawer Fronts

Defaults:

  • Cabinet doors over 48” in height will have a horizontal center rail inserted
  • Cabinet doors over 24” in width will have a vertical center stile inserted.
  • Cabinet doors over 48” in width will have 2 vertical center stiles inserted.
  • Drawer Fronts under 48″ in width WILL NOT have a vertical center stile.
  • Drawer Fronts OVER 48″ in width WILL have a vertical center stile.

All center stiles and rails will be centered to create even-sized panels. Tenon Doors and Fronts over 24″ W or 48″ H without recommended midrail/stile are possible to order but ARE NOT covered by our 1 year warranty.

Tolerance

The Cabinet Door Store warrants that it’s wood cabinet doors have a size tolerance of +/- 1mm.

Warping is always a factor with wood cabinet doors. The Cabinet Door Store warrants that any door or drawer front under 24”x48” will have an allowance of 1/8” for warpage. Doors or drawer fronts between the sizes of 24”x48” and 24”x72” will have an allowance of ¼” for warpage. Any doors or drawer fronts wider than 24” or higher than 72” will not be warranted for warpage.

Note: This applies to doors and drawer fronts with one vertical grain panel.

Inset Doors and Drawer Fronts

When ordering tenon cabinet doors for an inset application, we recommend ordering your doors slightly oversized with the “I” outside edge profile. This way you can size the front specifically for your opening. Because of the properties inherent in wood and the achievable tolerances, we do not guarantee fronts to fit an inset application properly.

Quality Standards For Every Tenon Door

  • assembled in an automated clamp to ensure squareness.
  • squared again and edged to your desired profile on a CNC automated double ender.

  • machine orbital sanded front and back.
  • hand orbital sanded front for select and premium grades.
  • profile sanded on the raised panel and outside edges.
  • run through a denibber sander.
  • individually inspected for quality and ensure all cross grain scratches have been removed.

Doors are very high quality. Paid for the pre finished and painted and the quality looks just like it came from a factory. Would definitely order again. Overall very happy how my project turned out and was able to rehab an old vanity with these new doors and drawers.

  1. Doors were well painted…they met my high standards. Dimensions were exactly what I ordered, and they look great on the cabinet frames. Matter of fact, they look so good I may have to buy new appliances.

Q & A

Ask a question
Does the panel material change when upgrading from Maple with HDF to red oak or others? Tyler asked on December 18, 2024

Hi Tyler,

The HDF panel is intended to be painted, while the other species are intended to be stained or clear coated. Any of the stain grade flat panels are a veneer over HDF.

When ordering panels for a lazy susan opening, do you order one panel with a "lazy susan slave mount" and the other panel with a "standard lazy susan master?" Alex asked on November 13, 2024

Hi Alex,

That is correct, if you plan on using bifold hinge hardware similar to what we offer on our site: https://cabinetdoor.store/product/blum-corner-cabinet-hinge-kit/

Do you offer a "slim" shaker door or is 2.25" the smallest we can go on the rails? Tyler McLean asked on August 22, 2024

Hi Tyler,
Please reach out to our support desk at [email protected] for a slim shaker option. On our 5-pc Shaker door, we can do a smaller frame width, but will only bore for hinges on a 2-1/4" or larger frame width.
